Tortoise: An Algorithmic Fractal Torus Artwork Connecting Hopf Geometry, Sacred Symbols, Myths and Altered-State Vision

Tortoise is an animated algorithmic artwork built by repeatedly nesting two oppositely rotated Hopf fibre bundles into a fractal torus. Part of the Nameless framework, it uses particles, evolving nested tori and interactive parameter changes to explore visual similarities with scientific ideas, sacred geometry, religious symbols, myths, architecture and visionary art. The project includes a visualiser with 37 pattern-matched connections, including black holes, wormholes, the Flower of Life, Sri Yantra on Kurma, Ezekiel’s Wheel, Indra’s Net, muqarnas and rose windows. The creator explicitly cautions that these are visual analogies, not claims of historical, scientific or spiritual derivation, and describes the scientific links as speculative. A later phenomenological layer uses AI-generated renders to suggest how different people might perceive different beings, objects or scenes over a shared geometric structure. Community responses connect the artwork with meditation, DMT experiences and personal models of reality, but these testimonies remain subjective rather than evidence of the artwork’s proposed cosmological interpretations.
