Alexander Beiner - The Psychedelic Shadow

The psychedelic shadow explores the conflict between individualistic, ego-driven Western culture and the dissolution of self often sought through Eastern philosophies and psychedelic experience. It examines how these two approaches can collide, creating a shadow where repressed personality aspects, such as unacknowledged desires or judgments, are projected outward upon others under the guise of enlightenment. By comparing the story of a stonecutter to an ego-centered narrative, the talk illustrates the danger of blindly following an ego-driven path versus the potential of integrating a healthy, compassionate sense of self. It advocates for an integral approach that balances personal development with radical self-acceptance, suggesting that a healthy ego should function as a bridge rather than an barrier.
