MAPS supports therapist education for the first Department of Defense-affiliated MDMA-assisted therapy pilot for PTSD
MDMA-assisted therapy training is being provided by MAPS to support clinicians in a Department of Defense-funded PTSD study. The DoD awarded Emory University and STRONG STAR a $4.9 million grant to explore MDMA-assisted Massed Prolonged Exposure Therapy for active-duty service members, but the grant did not include therapist training. MAPS offered a no-cost modified educational program, funded by philanthropic partners such as Mission Within Foundation, to close that gap. Training consists of four days of live online instruction plus 15 hours of asynchronous content. The curriculum includes video case studies, interactive group discussions, Q&A with experienced educators, and materials on MAPS' Inner-Directed Therapy (IDT) model used in MAPS phase 3 studies. MAPS clarifies it is not involved in running the clinical trial and does not maintain a formal relationship with the DoD.
