Intranasal 5-MeO-DMT effects peak within 15 minutes and lack strong visuals, study finds

Intranasal 5-MeO-DMT peaks 8 to 15 minutes after administration, with consciousness altering effects typically ending after about 45 to 60 minutes. In a psychedelic naive sample (40 participants aged 25 to 55), subjective effects began within 0 to 2 minutes. Effects gradually dissipated from roughly 15 to 40 minutes, with some lingering effects reported up to 90 minutes. Higher doses showed a slightly longer peak and longer dissipation. The experience profile included sensory and emotional changes, shifts in cognition and metacognition, altered arousal, and changes in perceived relationships between self, other, and environment. Compared with DMT, the effects were reported as less visual but more immersive and abstract, emphasizing strong emotional and bodily effects rather than prominent visuals. The study also notes limits in sample size for definitive dose comparisons.
