Virtual reality simulation and Japanese feudal history intersect in this animated sequence from The Animatrix short Program. A warrior named Cis fights against a enemy samurai named Duo in a simulated training program set in feudal Japan. During the duel, Duo attempts to persuade Cis to betray humanity and return to the Matrix with him, turning their training exercise into a high-stakes psychological battle. Cis refuses his proposition and defeats Duo, only to wake up in the real world and discover that the scenario was an elaborate loyalty test designed by her crew.
