As psychedelic therapies enter the mainstream- understanding the experience of the space holder becomes as critical as the journeyer experience, highlighting that safe containers are fundamentally rooted in indigenous wisdom rather than just clinical models. Effective space holding involves total presence and absolute invisibility. The practitioner remains anchored and stable to support the journeyer through intense somatic and emotional states while resisting the urge to fix or direct the outcome. This work relies on cultivating internal capacities that prioritize being over doing, where the transformative container is viewed as a mutual and reciprocal exchange supporting both the journeyer and the practitioner.
